About Woodpeckers

There are a mix of Woodpeckers that call Upstate New York home all year long. Woodpeckers eat suet, peanuts, black oil sunflower, and sunflower hearts. Providing suet in a “paddletail” style suet feeder is the best way to attract the biggest diversity of Woodpeckers, including the large Pileated Woodpecker.

Don’t be surprised if you see woodpeckers on any of your feeders that provide peanuts (either in the shell or pickouts) and black oil sunflower! Woodpeckers are also cavity nesters. They may excavate their own nest site by creating a hole in a tree or will nest in a bird house.
