Although they in the blackbird family, Orioles get their own category due to their unique diet. Orioles are migratory and are a welcome sign of spring to Upstate New York in early May. Orioles will come to backyard feeders that offer one or more of their favorite foods such as grape or Birdberry jelly, oranges, nectar, or mealworms.

If there is just one type of food you are putting out for Orioles, it should be Birdberry Jelly. The Bird House recommends adding a weather guard to your Oriole feeder to keep rain from washing out any exposed jelly or nectar. Adding an ant moat and purchasing a feeder with bee guards can help keep out unwanted insects.
