About Nuthatches

What’s that bird hanging upside down from the feeder? It’s probably a Nuthatch! The White-breasted and Red-breasted Nuthatch are common birds to see scaling head-first down the trunk of a tree. They can easily cling to the sides of feeders, they do not require one that has perches.

Their favorite foods include black oil sunflower, sunflower hearts, peanut pickouts, and suet. Nuthatches nest in cavities and will nest inside bird houses.
