About Hummingbirds
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are the jewel of the garden in the spring and summer months. They arrive to Upstate New York in early May and will depart in September. While we only have one species in our area, Hummingbirds nation-wide can be attracted with a nectar feeder. Consider adding native, brightly colored tubular plants to your garden to encourage even more Hummingbirds to the yard. Hummingbird nectar can be purchased in ready-to-use liquid form, or in liquid and powder concentrate.
It can also be made at home using a recipe of one part sugar to four parts water. Adding an ant moat and purchasing a feeder with bee guards will help to keep unwanted insects away.
