2012 Events:
April 21:Project NestWatch Q&A with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Meet Jason Martin, leader of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Project NestWatch. Jason will be in the store to answer all your questions about bird nesting, and will have several samples of bird nests to show. 10am-2pm
April 21-22: Bird of Prey Days at Braddock Bay. Get all the information on the new photography trend- digiscoping! Try out and ask questions about equipment. We will also have a selection of the newest field guides and binoculars to look through. This session meets at Braddock Bay Park, 199 East Manitou Rd in Greece. Visit anytime from 9am-1pm. On April 21st from 10-11am, The Bird House’s own Carl Crumley will be presenting a session on bird photography.
April 28th: Tube Feeder Cleaning Day and book signing. Have your feeder cleaned for free by our expert staff. 10am-3pm. Book signing with local author Randi Minetor, author of the book Backyard Birding: A Guide to Attracting and Identifying Birds.
May 5th: Bovano of Cheshire trunk show with company president Jim Flood. A wide selection of the Bovano line will be featured, along with Bovano’s newest designs in this one-day event. Enter a raffle to win a free Bovano piece. 10am-3pm.
May 26th: Nikon Representative Bill Stopinski in the shop to help you pick out the perfect pair of binoculars or scope. 10am-2pm.
June 9th: Beginner Bird Walk at Tinker Nature Park. Learn the basics of birding while exploring the trails of Tinker Nature Park. Bluebirds and pileated woodpeckers are common sights here. We will provide a spotting scope for up-close views of the birds we find. This class meets at the Tinker Nature Park at 10am.
August 11th: Kid’s Day. Kids can make a bird feeder or bird house absolutely free! 10am-3pm.
September 8th: Monarch Tagging. Learn how to tag monarch butterflies as they make their fall migration to Mexico. Afterwards, we will catch and tag all we find at the park. All participants will receive instructions on how to track the monarchs tagged in class. This class meets at the Tinker Nature Park at 1pm. Registration required, space is limited. Call Tinker at 359-7044 to register.
September 15th: Jabebo Earrings Show. Jabebo earrings trunk show with company owner Kevin Abbott. This extensive & fun eco-friendly jewelry line, which are all made of post-consumer cardboard, will be on display. Participate in an activity to learn how the earrings are made! 10am-2pm.
September 22nd: Tube Feeder Cleaning Day. Have your feeder cleaned for free by our expert staff. 10am-3pm.
October 13th: Cooking for the Birds. Learn fun recipes for snacks birds will love! Supplies will be provided to make your own! 10am-2pm.
November 17th: Holiday Open House with Little House Red.
